TCLIP – Anti‑Racism Campaign Toolkit

TCLIP – Anti‑Racism Campaign Toolkit

Overview

We partnered with the Tri-Cities Local Immigration Partnership (TCLIP) to develop a comprehensive campaign toolkit aimed at fostering community engagement and educating both law enforcement and the public on anti-racism. This initiative is a response to the rising incidents of police-reported hate crimes, particularly those related to race, as highlighted by Statistics Canada. Our task was to create impactful print collaterals and compelling visuals for digital media that support this vital cause.

Approach

Our creative strategy revolved around storytelling, using a real-life experience of racism to illustrate the importance of reporting such incidents. This narrative approach helps to humanize the issue and makes the process of reporting more relatable and understandable for the audience. We crafted custom illustrations and employed a clear, structured layout to effectively convey the story and its message.

About the Program

The statistics are alarming: a 27% increase in police-reported hate crimes in 2021, with a 21% rise in race-related incidents in British Columbia, and a staggering 97% increase in Metro Vancouver. Funded by the Resilience BC Anti-Racism Network and in collaboration with the Port Moody Police Department, TCLIP’s anti-racism initiative aims to enhance the Tri-Cities communities’ ability to address and respond to racism.

To support this initiative, TCLIP conducted community engagement activities and developed a suite of anti-racism resources and tools. An Advisory Committee, comprising law enforcement and representatives from equity-deserving groups, played a crucial role in shaping these resources. Their insights ensured that the tools and training developed are effective in educating both law enforcement and the community while offering support to victims of racism.

Our Contribution

In this project, we delivered:

  • Print Collaterals: Designed to inform and educate, these materials are essential for outreach and training sessions.
  • Digital Media Visuals: Custom illustrations and clear layouts that tell a compelling story, making the process of reporting racism incidents accessible and comprehensible.
  • French Version: We also supported La Fédération des francophones de la Colombie-Britannique (FFCB) in developing the French version of the anti-racism campaign toolkit.

Our work aims to support TCLIP’s mission to build stronger, more resilient communities that are equipped to combat racism and support victims effectively.
