Sources Community Resources Society (SOURCES) has supported individuals and families in Surrey, Delta, White Rock, and beyond since 1978. Through food banks, mental health programs, and family services, SOURCES fosters inclusion, diversity, and resilience. Last year, they served over 73,000 individuals and benefited from more than 26,000 volunteer hours, reflecting strong community support. This year, we created a unified impact report to showcase their accomplishments and ongoing commitment to enhancing the lives of those they serve.
Our collaboration began with a photography session alongside SOURCES’ outreach team, capturing authentic stories that reflect the organization’s impact. We suggested cover images and titles focused on the people SOURCES serves, ensuring the visuals aligned with their mission and set the tone for the entire project, showcasing the real faces behind the services.
SOURCES entrusted us with the creative freedom to explore new design techniques, leading to a bold layout with spread pages, large numbers, and custom icons to emphasize key points. We employed two distinct colours—blue for the Society report and green for the Foundation report—to differentiate the sections while enhancing readability. Bold and modern typography establishes visual hierarchy, and infographics present data in an engaging manner, making complex information easily understood. Specific design choices, such as the integration of images with text, help tell the story visually. SOURCES loved the redesign, particularly the bold look and seamless integration of text with images, which enriched the overall narrative.
Last year, SOURCES printed two separate annual reports—one for the Sources Society and one for the Sources Foundation. For this year’s report, they faced the challenge of merging these into one while fitting all the necessary information and reducing paper usage. We addressed this by creating style guides, layout wireframes, and establishing a clear information hierarchy. Large font contrasts highlighted key points, while icons replaced text to condense content without losing clarity. After testing various font sizes for legibility, SOURCES reduced paper usage by over 50%, reflecting their commitment to sustainability. Strong communication and file organization ensured the report was delivered on time and with impact.
This year’s annual report highlights SOURCES’ dedication to supporting diverse communities and fostering positive change. As SOURCES continues to grow and adapt, this report serves as a testament to their unwavering commitment to social wellness in the community. We are honoured to be a part of the documentation of SOURCES’ impactful journey.
